This detailed DIY model recreates the look, movement and tactile experience of a classic vintage typewriter using precision-cut wooden components, metal gears and a fully integrated mechanical typing mechanism.

Unlike a traditional static model, the completed typewriter features working keys, moving typebars, paper feeding and line-feed mechanisms. Press the keys and the internal gears and typebars move together to create a satisfying simulated typing experience and leave impressions on paper.

Build a Working Mechanical Typewriter

The ROKR Mechanical Typewriter is designed to give you much more than the experience of assembling a traditional 3D puzzle.

As you press the keys, the internal mechanical system comes to life. Gears rotate, the corresponding typebars move upward and strike the paper, recreating the physical rhythm of a classic typewriter.

The paper can then be advanced using the integrated paper-feed mechanism, allowing you to continue writing line by line.
